Assessment of Student Learning

  • To provide our students with the best college experience possible, North Central State College is always using data to stay at the top of our game! We continuously measure student learning and satisfaction to ensure our programs are preparing students for success in college, careers, and life.

We measure student learning and satisfaction by:

    • Reviewing each year the number of students who graduate from our programs and go on to pass licensure exams, secure rewarding careers, transfer to four-year institutions, and achieve their educational goals.
    • Conducting a variety of student satisfaction and engagement surveys annually to better understand the student experience and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Assessing the College-Wide Outcomes that all North Central State students are expected to develop, including:
      • Critical Thinking – analyzing problems, evaluating information, and making informed decisions.
      • Information Literacy – locating, evaluating, and using information effectively while recognizing unreliable or misleading sources.
      • Oral Communication – presenting ideas clearly and confidently through speeches, presentations, and discussions.
      • Written Communication – expressing ideas effectively through written assignments and professional communication.
      • Intercultural Knowledge – understanding, respecting, and working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
      • Quantitative Reasoning – interpreting and applying numerical data to solve problems and make decisions.

These outcomes help us measure important skills that may not be reflected in a course grade alone, such as collaborating with others, conducting research, communicating effectively, analyzing workplace challenges, using data responsibly, and engaging with others with empathy and understanding.
