Grit & Belonging
I like to feel that I got grit & belong here. How do I get more of that feeling?
Trust yourself and your experiences! People from all walks of life come to NC State to make their dreams and dream-job a reality. We’ve met thousands over the years. So, we know from experience that you already have a personal quality we call grit: it includes curiosity, passion, persistence, determination, brains, guts, and heart. Another word for this is resilience.
Value Relationships
We human beings are wired for relationships. We learn from each other, help each other, and encourage each other. In supportive relationships, we feel that we belong. Research shows that belonging is a profound feeling of acceptance that builds momentum for student success. So, in relationships, we get more grit. We have resources on campus to help you build trusting, supportive relationships with faculty, staff, and other students.

Set Your Intention
Know this. You do belong here! You have used your grit and wit and resilience to survive. Now it’s time to thrive. Be intentional about this. Use your college experiences as small, incremental steps that build upon each other over time to make your dreams a reality.
