Nursing Pathway

The NC State Nursing pathway aligns student coursework toward a Practical Nursing Certificate (PNUR) and  Registered Nursing Degree (RNUR). Some courses may also align to other health programs at NC State, but it is important to talk with an NC State advisor if seeking another allied health program. NC State Health Programs have additional program admission criteria, including the TEAS V exam. Students can access health program admission for the various associate degree programs by clicking here. Many of these courses are also guaranteed to transfer to any public Ohio college under the Ohio Transfer Module (OTM). This is just a sample of the courses available in the Sci-Med Pathway. There are additional courses that could align to this pathway. We invite you to speak with us about your specific goals, so that we can assist you in making the choices that are right for you.

1 NC State’s Nursing programs may have different minimum grades for general education and science courses. These standards are driven by external accreditation requirements. Please inquire about your specific program.
2 Ohio Transfer Module (OTM): Transferable general education courses regardless of major. Students should consult the state Transfer Module Grid for limits on credit hours by area that are guaranteed general education transfer. Ohio Transfer Assurance Guides (TAG): Technical courses transferable to certain major areas above and beyond OTM courses. In limited instances a course could have both an OTM and TAG label.
3 Placement: proof of college readiness in English (ACT English >=18 or Accuplacer Writeplacer >=5). If these cut-off scores are not achieved, students have a secondary option of providing evidence of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in high school courses with a B or above in the 11th grade English class OR a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in high school courses and the recommendation of the last English teacher.
4 Placement: proof of college readiness in math (ACT Math Score >=22 or Accuplacer Quantitative Reasoning >=263). If these cut-off scores are not achieved, students have a secondary option of providing evidence of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in high school courses with a B or above in a higher-level mathematics class (Algebra II or above).
5 Prerequisite: Chemistry (CHEM 1030) has a prerequisite of high school chemistry or CHEM 1010 at NC State (minimum grade of C- for either). This further requires proof of college readiness in math (ACT Math score >=22 or Accuplacer Quantitative Reasoning > = 263).
6 Prerequisite: Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 1010) is a pre-requisite to Human Growth and Development (PSYC 2010).
7 BIOL 2751 requires proof of college readiness in math (ACT Math >= 22 or Accuplacer Quantitative Reasoning >= 263) and English (ACT English >= 18 or Accuplacer Writeplacer >= 5). Moreover, it requires completion of high school chemistry or NC State’s Introductory Chemistry (CHEM 1010) with a minimum grade of C-. Finally, BIOL 2751 is a prerequisite to BIOL 2752.
