Academic Advising
After students apply they will work with their Academic Advisor who will work with them through the enrollment process to make sure they are ready to start classes. Once the semester is underway, the Academic Advisor will be a student’s main point of contact outside of working directly with instructors. After the first two semesters, students will be transitioned to a program-specific liaison who will help prepare them for their journey after degree completion.
Academic advising is a partnership between the student and their advisor (Academic Advisor and Liaison). They are here to:
- Help students maintain their goals – Your academic goals directly impact your overall life goals. It is important to stick with your academic goals whether it be program completion time or getting good grades.
- Help students create an educational plan and register for classes – Having an overall academic plan for your program is important so you can prepare in advance how long you plan to take to complete your program. This also allows you to plan ahead each semester and adjust your course load if needed. Once you are in agreement with your plan each semester – registration is simple, all that’s needed is a simple confirmation from you. No need to spend time searching for courses and planning out your schedule.
- Work with students planning to transfer to a Bachelor’s program – the next step for many students after earning their degree from us is to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program. Planning ahead of time is important to ensure transferability to the school you are planning to attend.
- Link students with services they may need – Rather than being sent from office to office, you will have one central person to go to who can connect you to any service you need. Instead of searching for help alone, you will have someone to advocate for you and get you the help you need.
