Learning options to meet your busy schedule

North Central State College offers courses in a variety of formats. Students may attend courses online or in-person. Online options include courses with or without virtual meetings. Other courses are held fully on campus, or may be a blend of online and campus options.

  • These online courses are often described ad “asynchronous”. That means the content of the course is available completely online, but the course has no set time that it meets. You may work one on one with your instructor, or arrange time with classmates to complete group assignments. These courses offer maximum flexibility.

Please note: Not all courses are available in this format.

  • These online courses meet virtually at set times. The meeting times may be changed to adapt to the needs of attendees. All meetings are recorded and made available following the session. The content of the course is available completely online. You may also be asked to meet one on one with your instructor, or arrange time with classmates to complete group assignments. These courses offer great flexibility.

Please note: Not all courses are available in this format.

  • These courses meet both virtually and in-person. Online portions of the course may include lecture and classroom discussion, while in-person work is scheduled to complete lab work and other hands-on assignments individually or with other members of your class. You may work one on one with your instructor virtually or in-person, or arrange time with classmates to complete group assignments.

Please note: Not all courses are available in this format.

  • These courses meet in-person, on-campus or at an agreed upon location, like the Crawford Success Center. You will be expected to attend every class in-person throughout the term. Additional assignments, homework and projects will be completed on your own.

Please note: Not all courses are available in this format.

  • Each semester, NC State offers two 8-week sessions referred to as Session A and Session B. You may enroll in either, or both sessions when you register for classes. While the transition to the 8-week format is well underway, a few classes remain in the 16-week format. Eight-week classes are designed to help you succeed. The 8-week format has proven to improve the success rates of students by allowing them to concentrate on fewer courses at one time — usually one or two in each Session — instead of three, four or more subjects at the same time.

Please be mindful of the length of the courses you are registering for as you explore each term.
